Clean tarnished silverware and silver jewelry easily

Silver reacts with the air and oxidize over time creating the tarnished black look. A quick and easy way to clean it is to put a piece of aluminum foil in hot water with salt. Put the silverware or jewelry into the pot and as soon as it touch the aluminum foil, it turns silver and shinny immediately. Then rinse the item in a clean bowl of salt water again and dry. You are now ready to use it.

The key is the proportion of salt to hot water. According to the video, you should use 200 cc hot water to 40 gram salt. It is approximately 1 cup of water with 2 teaspoon of salt.

Attorney's Advise - protect your identity and credit

Read this and make a copy for your files in case you need to refer to it someday. Maybe we should all take some of his advice! A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company:

1. Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, write 'PHOTO ID REQUIRED.'

2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the 'For' line. Instead, just put the last four numbers.
The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won't have access to it.

3. Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a P.O. Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address.
Never have your SS# printed on your checks. (DUH!) You can add it if it is necessary.
But if you have it printed, anyone can get it.

4. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place. You should also carry a photocopy of your passport when traveling abroad.

We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed on us in stealing a Name, address, Social Security number, credit cards. Thieves can use that information to apply for a credit card, credit line from department or electronic store to buy expensive stuff, or even receive a PIN number from DMV to change the driving record information online, and more. But here's some critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know:

5. We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. But the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them.

6. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one).

But here's what is perhaps most important of all:

7. Call the 3 national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and also call the Social Security fraud line number. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the internet in my name. The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit.

By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves' purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert. Since then, no additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away this weekend (someone turned it in). It seems to have stopped them dead in their tracks.

Here are the numbers you always need to contact about your wallet, if it has been stolen:

1.) Equifax: 1-800-525-6285

2.) Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742

3.) Trans Union : 1-800-680 7289

4.) Social Security Administration (fraud line): 1-800-269-0271

We pass along jokes on the Internet; we pass along just about everything.

If you are willing to pass this information along, it could really help someone that you care about.

Quick and easy eggplant dish

Rinse the eggplant, cut it into slices, put it into a bowl and steam for 10 mins. On serving, stir it with chopped ginger and spring onion, garlic, sesame oil and a little vinegar and soy sauce.

Quick Asian flavor noodle bowl for lunch or dinner

This is a quick and easy way to make a meal out of left over that is otherwise too little to make a full meal. I happend to have the items below at home but feel free to substitute.

1 bowl - Cooked glass noodle or any kind of asian noodle you like
4 tbsp - Miso dressing from Trader Joe's (optional)
1/2 cup - Asian salad dressing - I use Feast from the East asian dressing from Costco but you can also make your own with sugar, vinega, salt and pepper, sesame oil and other spices to your liking.

Heat up the leftover either in a pan or in the microwave. Put the hot noodle in a bowl. Mix the miso dressing with the asian salad dressing and then pour over hot noodle. Top with leftover.

Time: 10 mins.

Vegan Chili in 5 minutes

This is a really easy recipe and you will have tasty vegan chili in 5 mins.

Ingredients:
Trader Joe's vegan chorizo sausage (1)
Kidney bean, canned (1 can)
Unsweetened Almond milk (1/2 cup to 2 cups)

1. Peel off the plastic casing on the sausage and crumple it in the saucepan.
2. Add kidney beans and 1/2 cup of almond milk.
3. Heat the mixture until hot. Add more almond milk if you want the chili to be milder in taste.

Eat with rice, nacho/sour cream, or any way you like to eat chili.

Note: you can use other beans if you want to. I am allergic to soy milk but I think you can use unsweetened soy or coconut milk.

Keep ants away

  • Ants won't crawl over chalk, so sprinkle powdered chalk around window casements.

  • Mix 10.5 oz water, 3 oz tobasco sauce, 1.5 oz Dr Bronner's liquid peppermint soap and spray where ants enter the home.

  • Cayenne pepper is another natural deterrent: mix 1/4 tsp with 1 tsp dishwashing liquid per quart of water and spray around entry points to your home.
I forgot to add dishwashing liquid last time but as soon as the water evaporates, the ants crawled over the cayenne pepper so I don't think this method works.

  • Plant some goldenrod outside - it attracts ant predators such as ladybugs
  • Jump start to wellness

I was reading an article I saved from one of those women's magazine about wellness. It gave strategies to achieve four goals: lower your blood pressure, slash cholesterol, clean up your diet, banish fatigue.

Some of the tips were pretty obvious lifestyle adjustments like drink more water, eat more vegetables, eat smaller meals but snack more often, exercise, get good quality sleep, reduce salt intake, get a massage, learn to breathe.

However, I find that the first three goals can be achieved effortlessly if you switch to a vegan diet. It is unfortunate that people are so brainwashed about getting protein from meat and dairy that we don't realize meat is the cause of much health problems in our country: obesity, heart disease, cancer, and many more aliments that can be avoided. Less developed country with plant based diet start to suffer dramatic increase in these diseases when they start to adopt our western diet. I wonder when people will find that meat is bad for you, much like how tobocco company use to make people think that smoking is alright.

    Improve your quality of sleep

Don't drink before bed - A glass of wine with dinner may relax you temporarily, but alcohol will actually wake you up again four to six hours after you've taken your last sip. That's because your body digests the alcohol, some of the by-products interfere with the stages and duration of your sleep.

Wear socks to bed - That added warmth encourages good blook circulation, which signals neurotransmitters in your brain that it's time to relax and go to sleep

Take your vitamins - Calcium and magnesium both help nerves stay healthy so they can effectively signal muscles to relax at night. When you know you're facing crazier-than-normal days ahead, make sure you get your daily 1,200 millgrams of calcium through dark leafy greens, and your magnesium by eating legumes, nuts, and whole grains.

Get out of bed - if you find yourself tossing and turning for longer than 15 minutes, get back up until your body feels ready to sleep. Try reading something boring.

    Instant stress-buster

Sit cross-legged on the floor and grasp your right shoulder with your right hand and your left shoulder with your left hand. Twist to the left at the wasit; hold for ten seconds. Repeat on the right side.

Home made bread in under an hour

I read this the other day. I haven't tried it yet but will do so as soon as I buy the beer.

    Beer Bread

3 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 3 tbs sugar 1 tbs baking powder 1 1/2 tsp salt 12 oz beer 1 egg, beaten Adjust oven rack to lower-middle position and heat over to 37 degrees. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Add beer and stir with a fork until just combined. Turn dough onto a floured surface; knead quickly to form a ball. Place bread on a baking sheet and confidently slit and X on top with a serrated or very sharp knife. Brush loaf with egg wash. Bake until golden brown, about 45 mins. Transfer to a wire rack to cool. yeild 12 servings (163 cal per serving)

Amway Queen Cookware replacement handle & lid knob

If you are like me with a set of Amway Queen cookware, you will inevitably find yourself looking to replace the handle or lid knob as they will eventually fall apart. Even though the Queen cookware line has been discontinued for a long time now, those of us who bought them will probably still be using them for many more years.

For those of you looking for a long handle replacement, make sure you look at the connector on the saucepan/skillet. If yours is a round piece like the picture here, you can still get a replacement long handle here. https://goo.gl/9Axrtn
